FAQ
What blockchains do you support?
Ethereum, Bitcoin, BSC, Optimism, Polygon, Base, Arbitrum, Avalanche, Gnosis, Solana, TON, and Tron (beta) — 12 chains total. Solana fund tracing and Source of Funds are temporarily unavailable while the transfer-data provider key is replaced; Solana address lookup and sanctions screening still work. Cross-chain tracing stops at the bridge and shows target chain — you can manually continue on the destination chain.
How accurate is the entity attribution?
Accuracy depends on the source. OFAC and stablecoin blacklists are authoritative (100% precision). Forta and Scam Sniffer labels have confidence scores (0–1). Live on-chain enrichment (ENS names, contract labels, token metadata, and TronScan public tags on Tron) fills in gaps for unlabeled addresses. Unknown addresses show as 'Unknown' rather than making a guess.
How is the estimated loss calculated?
Every transfer is priced on the day it actually moved, using DeFiLlama historical prices — not one price applied to the whole trace, which would misstate any trace spanning more than a day. Both native tokens (ETH, BTC, SOL…) and ERC-20 / SPL tokens are included, and tokens are priced by contract address rather than by the symbol they claim. A day or token with no historical price is reported as unpriced instead of being valued at today's price, and each transfer also carries its value at today's price so you can compare both bases.
Is my investigation data private?
Yes. Your incidents and traced addresses are only visible to your account. Public sharing of a graph is opt-in via the Share button.
How long does a trace take?
Typically 5–30 seconds depending on hop depth and chain. ETH traces with 3 hops complete in under 10 seconds. Deep Agency-tier traces (6 hops) may take up to 60 seconds.
Can I use this as evidence in court?
ChainHint is an investigative tool, not a certified forensics provider. The Compliance PDF export can support legal work, but should be verified with a certified chain-analysis firm (Chainalysis, Elliptic) for court submissions.
What's the difference between Investigator and Agency?
Agency adds API access (wallet-reputation endpoint), 6-hop tracing (vs 4), 2,000 addresses per trace (vs 500), 50 monitored addresses (vs 5), and priority support. Both Investigator and Agency include PDF report export.
Do you support Bitcoin?
Yes — BTC tracing uses Blockstream API with cluster labels (WalletExplorer), OFAC BTC sanctions, and CoinJoin mixer detection. BFS traversal works the same as on Ethereum.
What payment methods do you accept?
Cryptocurrency only — BTC, ETH, USDT and 20+ other coins via NOWPayments. Choose monthly or annual (33% off) at checkout. Each payment is one-time; there is no auto-renewal.
How do I cancel my subscription?
There's nothing to cancel. NOWPayments doesn't store payment details and we don't auto-renew — your plan runs until its expiry date (30 or 365 days after payment) and then stops automatically. To continue, just buy again from /pricing.
